CMMI Level 3: Establishment of Best Practices Recognized with ITG Proprietary System

Integration Technologies Group, Inc. (ITG), a leading provider of high quality computer services, products and support to government agencies, commercial enterprises, and non-profit/educational organizations announced today that it has achieved the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration CMMI Level 3 rating for System Engineering and Software Engineering.

“Attaining CMMI Level 3 demonstrates ITG’s level of commitment to excellence in system engineering, software development and delivery,” remarked ITG CEO Michael Angelakis. “Because CMMI is the standard of excellence in improving organizational processes in government and industry, achieving this rating places ITG in a select group of providers.” As of June 30, 2005, there were only 413 organizations world-wide that have been rated at CMMI Level 3. Out of the 413 organizations, 147 are US-based companies.

What is SEI?

The SEI is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The SEI helps organizations make measured improvements in their software engineering capabilities and develop the right software, delivered defect free, on time, and within budget, every time. SEI ratings are comprised of five maturity levels and are earned through an exhaustive independent evaluation involving analysis and review of a company’s software development capability, its processes and its products.

How we succeeded?

Dr. Richard Waina, external Lead Appraiser from Perot Systems noted that, “ITG Management-demonstrated a commitment to organizational process improvement, and SEI CMMI Maturity Level 3 helped to ensure this success.

All levels of the organization are involved and focused on continuous improvement. Every individual’s commitment to this process discipline and improvement was quite evident. ITG has done an excellent job integrating their business, technical, and improvement efforts.”ITG achieved its CMMI Level 3 rating in 9 months, “an unprecedented amount of time,” says Angelakis. According to SEI, the median time to move from a Level 2 rating to Level 3 is 20 months.”

Angelakis attributes his company’s success to ITG’s internal proprietary system, CENTRE (Common Enterprise Resource). CENTRE is a powerful project management tool that provides authoritative reporting on trends, status, results and cost. “To be more specific, CENTRE allows instant access to information on people, assets, activities and outcomes. It’s a great resource for us and our customers,” says Angelakis. ITG also received ISO 9001:2008 certification in November of 2004.

“As we continue to expand our reach, this confirms that we have established an effective, well-defined process and procedure in system engineering and software engineering,” says Angelakis. Angelakis also announced that ITG will market CENTRE and its project management process to organizations seeking to become CMMI rated.
