ITG Releases New Operating System, BEACON, to Provide an Accessibility Solution for Individuals with Visual, or Other Impairments

The rise in baby boomers that are reaching retirement age, the return of wounded warriors and the increasing complexity of software products, has created the need for accessibility solutions that could accommodate these computer user’s needs and allow visually impaired individuals to perform with ease, common computer related activities. ITG’s applied engineering and in depth knowledge of adaptive systems, allowed us to design, test, implement and release the ITG BEACON, an enabling technology operating environment.

BEACON is an adaptive software tool intended to bridge the gap between software products utilized in daily functions, with the requirements of individuals with visual impairments, or users that lack sophisticated skills. By developing a new operating system architecture that streamlines the amount of input needed from an individual user, BEACON enables those with either visual impairments, or lack of specific knowledge, to perform tasks on parity with their sighted, or sophisticated counterparts.

Giovanni Canobbio, ITG Executive Vice President says, “In the United States, there is a growing need to ensure that aging citizens and veterans with visual impairments have easy access to technological resources, enabling them to take advantage of the rapidly growing world of information.”

“ITG understands that new challenges require new and innovative solutions” says, ITG’s Pat Zawasky, Vice President of Accessibility Solutions. “We are excited that BEACON provides access to commonly used computer applications designed with visual impairments in mind. The BEACON operating system provides an ease of use that simplifies complex processing steps and allows for faster acclimation for visually impaired users.”
